Texas Instruments, with its Telogy

Protocol (IP) phone manufacturers
consisting of processor and codec
devices bundled with a comprehen-
sive embedded software solution
and an IP Phone reference design.
TI offers developers a low risk
solution enabling very rapid time to
market. This is achieved by provid-
ing a complete software solution
with industry standard Application
Programming Interfaces (APIs), by
giving early access to application de-
velopment tools and using proven, ro-
bust software and silicon technology.

TI’s IP Phone solution consists of:

TI’s IP phone chipset consists of
two devices:
• An IP phone processor which
integrates TI’s industry-leading,
low-power TMS320C54x DSP
with a RISC MCU and a dual-port
10/100-Mbps switched Ethernet
interface
• Single- or dual-channel IP phone
Codec devices with integrated
amplification.
This solution is the first truly
complete IP phone solution. It tar-
gets the Enterprise LAN IP Phone
space, enabling the augmentation
and replacement of traditional tele-
phone systems with network-based
communications systems running
over local and wide-area IP net-
works. The high-performance DSP
enables high-fidelity telephony over
IP networks.
Low Risk Solution
TI has shipped millions of devices
that integrate the ’C54x DSP with a
RISC CPU to the leading manufac-
turers of wireless digital cellular
telephone handsets.
On-chip Ethernet-switching tech-
nology taken from TI’s successful
Ethernet-switching products has
been added to this architecture.
Bundled with this device is Telogy
Network’s Golden Gateway
®
VoIP
software which has the largest
installed base of its kind and is thor-
oughly field proven. IP Phone-spe-
cific software has been added to the
Golden Gateway base product,
including half- and full-duplex
acoustic echo cancellation for speak-
er phone applications in addition to
the SIP and MGCP VoIP protocols
and wide-band vocoders.
IP Phones Expand Legacy PBX-Based Phone Systems
By re-using existing field-proven
technologies, TI considerably reduces
our customers’ development risk.
The high-performance, low-power
’C54x DSP CPU used in this solution
enables the adoption of future wide-
band voice compression standards.
These standards allow IP Phone sys-
tems to exceed the 4-kHz limit of the
public switched telephone network
(PSTN) and approach the audio
quality of FM radio or even CDs.
The flexible and programmable
architecture of this solution will
allow rapid adoption of changing IP
telephony standards.
TI’s IP Phone solution includes
industry standard Application Pro-
gramming Interfaces (APIs) to en-
able customers to quickly develop IP
telephone application software to dif-
ferentiate their IP Phone products
A prototype development board
allows customers to begin develop-
ing their IP Phone application soft-
ware today. A customer’s application
software can quickly and easily be
ported from the development plat-
form to the final hardware. This is
because the same APIs are used for
both the prototype board and the IP
Phone chipset
