methods, so efforts have alwaysbeen
madeto try to improveandmodernize
the CenterTear's ability to deceiveall
watchingthe peformance.
Although much easierandmorereliable
thanthe BakerMethod it alsohasseveral
dmwbacks to my way of thinking.
Severalvery clevervariationsof thebasic
Center-Tearbelongedto Al Koran. To
the bestolmy knowledgehe created
the
One-HandedCenter-Teitrafter watching
womenin a factory terr typewriterrib-
bons with only one hand. But alas,the
stolencenterstill had to be read on the
sly. Or did it?
The pause that you must make as you
open the center section,after the first
tear, is what botherc me most in his
method. Add to that theunusualnature
of the first tear,andthe relatively small
center you get to view, you canseewhat
I mean.
Koran alsohad the ideaof handing the
stolen center unopened to someone,
besidesthe writer, to open and read
as his own prediotion (S€e Al Koran

After a great deal of expeimentation
with all the above methods,I still was
just not satisfiedso I set out to develop
myownmethod.
Cleverideas,but the One-HandedTear
needsa specialtype of paper, and an
unusualwayof foldingit, andif a wise
guy wrcte somethingweirdon the paper
you could comeoff lookinglike a jerk,
insteadol a genius.
I came up with what I
considerto be the method which
perhaps may well be the best possible
and
techniqueavailable using the "Center-
Tear"concept.

Firstof all the "Umbrella Move"whichis

Two lears have just been made and
then you pause to look for sonlething

time as far as misdirection goes. But
most of all the UmbrellaMove rarely
works for me, or in fact for almost

UmbrellaMove, it goes like this: By
stickingyour thumb into a smallfolded
billet and pushing, it should open up
almostlike a little umbrella.)
Noneof the lears or movesareunusual
in nature,unlike th€ Osterlindmethod.

No UmbrellaMovesareused. Theprcc-
essof openingthe folded centeris easy,
reliable,and it is usable on almostany
reasonably
But evenif your misdiection is pedect,
and the UmbrellaMoveworksflawlessly,
you still must dlift about quite a larye
piece of paper comparedto all theother
ones.
If wished a largercenterthan nomal
may also be obtainedby just slightly
altering thebasictechnique.
Now that I'm done praising my inven-
tion let's get down to the important
stuff. How do wedo it?
