Exercise 1: A hole in the wall

1.       Draw a cycle and a rectangle.

2.       Round the corners of the rectangle. Simply position the cursor over the node (the cursor changes to the Shape tool cursor) and drag the cursor toward the center of the rectangle.

3.       Put the rectangle over the cycle. Select all objects and weld (ARRANGE/Shaping/Weld or click on the Weld icon on the Property Bar).

4.       Select the object with the Pick tool. Apply a texture: Open the Fill Tool flyout, and click Texture Fill Dialog. Choose a library containing the texture (Samples) you want from the Texture Library list box. Choose a texture you want from the Texture list box (Gouache wash). The Preview window inside the dialog box displays the fill attributes that are assigned to the selected object.

 

Exercise 2: Pie Chart (Extrude)

1.       Draw a big yellow ellipse. (select it)

2.       Open the Interactive Tools flyout, and click the Interactive Extrude Tool.

3.       Click on the cycle and drag the vanishing point marker (represented by X) downward to set the depth and direction of the extrusion.

4.       From the Extrusion Type list box on the Property Bar choose an extrusion type Back Parallel type (center in the lower raw).

5.       Click the Color icon on the Property Bar and press the Use Color Shading button. Click the From color picker, then click the color you want at the start of the gradient fill’s color progression. Click the To color picker, then click the color you want at the end of the gradient fill’s color progression.

6.       Observe the Extrusion Group in the Object Manager dockers.

To edit extrusion effect selects the object you want to edit with the Interactive Extrude tool

7.       Duplicate the ellipse, change the fill color and create a pie shape. Click on the ellipse node and drag keeping the cursor inside the perimeter of the ellipse. Put it on the top of ellipse. If you duplicate the ellipse with the effect choose EFFECTS/Clear Extrude).

 

Exercise 3: ABCD

1.       Write the word "ABCD" (Artistic text , color is unimportant) with Font: Arial Black, Font Size: 100, in the center of the Drawing Page.

Note: Choose Text Tool, click on the Drawing Page (create the new object Artistic Text) and then change options.

2.       Choose the Shape tool.

3.       Select the node of the first character. (Small, white square located left to the character. After selection it turns black.)

4.       Drug it down. Set the blue fill and the yellow 2-point outline.

5.       Double click on the node of the second character (open Format Text dialog box). Choose the Character tab.

6.       Type appropriate rotation and shift value of the character. Don’t click on OK button.

7.       Select and apply rotation to other characters. Click OK button.

8.       Choose Interactive Fill Tool.

9.       Click on the first character and drag over the last character.

10.    Apply linear fountain fill from blue color to red color. Use the Property Bar options.

11.    Set the mid-point slider after the first character. (Drag the mid-point slider that appears inside the object.)

 

Exercise 4: Contour effect

1.       Draw a big cycle with yellow fill and 8 point blue outline. (Select it.)

2.       Open the Interactive Tools flyout, and click the Interactive Contour tool. Set the 10 mm offset, the Outside type and 4 steps on the Property Bar.

3.       On the Property Bar click the Outline color picker, then click the color you want at the end of the outline progression (red color).

4.       On the Property Bar click the Fill color picker, then click the color you want at the end of the fill progression (green color).

5.       Try out another options: Inside type and To center type.

Exercise 5: Contour effect 2

1.       Type an Artistic Text and apply the Contour effect.

 

Exercise 6: NEON (interactive extrude)

1.       Set the landscape orientation of the Drawing Page. Use the Property Bar options.

2.       Write the word " NEON " (Artistic text, color is unimportant) with Font: Arial Black, Font Size: 200, in the center of the Drawing Page.

3.       Set the blue fill and the yellow 8 points outline. Put the text exactly in the center of drawing page.

4.       Choose the Interactive Extrude Tool.

5.       Click on the text and drag the vanishing point marker (represented by “X”) to position in the upper right corner of the Drawing Page.

6.       Drag the mid-point sliders that appear inside the object towards the upper right corner of the Drawing Page (and back).

7.       Click on the start handle (white square with X marker). The cursor changes the shape to form two arcs.

8.       Click and hold the mouse button in the middle of the dashed line cycle and drag clockwise (X and Y directions).

9.       Click and hold the mouse button outside the dashed line cycle and drag clockwise (Z direction).

10.    Try to position the vanishing point marker in the upper left corner of the Drawing Page with the vertical text orientation.

 

Exercise 7: A straight-line blend

1.       Draw a red rectangle in the lower left corner of the Drawing Page.

2.       Draw a yellow cycle in the lower right corner of the Drawing Page.

3.       Choose the Interactive Blend Tool.

4.       Click the rectangle and drag the end handle over the cycle and release the mouse button. (The end handle appears after you start dragging the object.)

5.       Drag the mid-point sliders that appears inside the object towards the rectangle and next towards the cycle.

6.       Double click on one slider and drug it separately.

7.       Change the number of steps to 40. Use the Property Bar options.

Exercise 8: Blending objects along a freehand path

8.       Draw a red rectangle in the upper left corner of the Drawing Page.

9.       Draw a yellow cycle in the upper right corner of the Drawing Page.

10.    Choose the Interactive Blend Tool.

11.    Hold down ALT key and draw a freehand path from the rectangle to the cycle, then release the mouse button.

12.    Choose the Shape Tool and change the path to form “S” shape.

 

Exercise 9: Drop Shadow

1.       Draw a small green rectangle (select it).

2.       Choose the Interactive Drop Shadow Tool.

3.       Click the rectangle and drag the end fill handle to position the drop shadow. Release the mouse button.

4.       Change the color of a drop shadow. Using the Interactive Drop Shadow tool, select the object whose drop shadow color you want to change. Drag a color from the on-screen Color Palette to the end fill handle. Or use the Property Bar option.

5.       Adjust the opacity of a drop shadow. In the Drawing Window, drag the slider to adjust the opacity of the drop shadow.

 

Exercise 10: Drop Shadow 2

1.       Type a text and apply Drop Shadow effect.

2.       Click on the Drop Shadow Group in the in the Object Manager dockers with the right mouse button. Choose the Brake Drop Shadow Group Apart option and observe that this is the Color Bitmap object.

 

Exercise 11: Distortion

1.       Open the Polygon Tool flyout, and click the Spiral Tool.

2.       Click on the Drawing Page and drag.

3.       Open the Interactive Tools flyout, and click Interactive Distortion Tool.

4.       Click inside the spiral and drag.

 

Exercise 12: Lenses

1.       Write one line of long text (Artistic text, Font: Arial Black, Font Size: 36). Duplicate it 4 times. Change the color of each copy.

2.       Align a series of text lines horizontally with the left edge of the page.

3.       Distribute a series of text lines vertically. (ARRANGE/Align and Distribute/Distribute tap)

4.       Draw the ellipse with no fill outside the text. (select it)

5.       Choose EFFECTS/Lens. Choose Fish Eye from the list box in the Lens Docker window. Set a value 300% in the Rate box. Click the Apply button. Choose the Pick tool and select ellipse. Move the ellipse over the text.

6.       Draw the cycle with no fill inside the text. Enable the Frozen check box in the Lens Docker window. Click the Apply button. Move the cycle over the text.

7.       Draw the rectangle with no fill inside the text. Enable the Viewpoint check box in the Lens Docker window. Click the Apply button.

8.       Move the rectangle outside the text.

9.       Choose the Pick tool and select all text lines. Move it with the keyboard arrow keys down.

 

 

For exercise 13 and 14 you can run the multimedia presentation files Lesn1.exe and Lesn2.exe from the P:\kowalski\grafika\coreldraw disk path (originally located in www.unleash.com Internet page).

Note: This example run in the old CorelDraw 8 version.

 

Exercise 13: HELLO (& multimedia)

1.       Write the word " HELLO" (Artistic text, fill cyan) with Font: Arial Black, Font Size: 50, in the center of the Drawing Page.

2.       Zoom in the page to about 400%.

3.       Set the outline width to 1,2 points and color to black. (Open the Outline Tool flyout, and click Outline Pen dialog box.).

4.       Set the fill to No Fill.

5.       Open the Interactive Tools flyout, and click the Interactive Contour tool.

6.       On the Property Bar select: To Center, 0,1 mm offset value, the Outline Color to white and the Fill Color to black.

 

Exercise 14: Unreal (& multimedia)

1.       Write the word " Unreal" (Artistic text, fill blue) with Font: Arial Black, Font Size: 150, in the center of the Drawing Page.

2.       Create the duplicate and move it upwards.

3.       Select the original, open the Outline Pen dialog box, set 80-point width and select Behind fill checkbox. Click OK buttons.

4.       Select duplicate and place it on the top of the original text. It doesn’t have to be perfect.

5.       Set the yellow outline of the duplicate.

6.       Open the Fountain Fill dialog box. Enable Custom checkbox.

7.       Double click on the center of the color blend preview ribbon. Select the white color from the color palette).

8.       Click on the right end color marker of the custom fill (white, small square). Select the blue color (third element from the color palette.

9.       Type in 90 degrees in the Options Angle window. Click OK.

10.    Choose the Interactive Blend Tool. Click on the duplicate (on top) and drag towards the original (black background).
