I - RISKS RELATING TO CONTAMINATION
A set of blanking plugs can only be used on one occa-
sion and must be thrown away afterwards: they be-
come dirty after use and cleaning them does not make
them reusable.
The high pressure direct injection system is highly sen-
sitive to contamination. The risks caused by contami-
nation are:
Plugs that are not used must also be thrown away (do
not keep them for other operations on the injection sys-
tem).
- damage to or destruction of the high pressure injec-
tion system,
-a component seizing,

All After-Sales operations must be performed under
very clean conditions. Having carried out an operation
in good conditions means that no impurities (particles a
few microns in size) have penetrated the system during
dismantling.

The cleanliness principle must be applied from the filter
to the injectors.

3 - Protective bags
• from paper,
Use plastic bags which can be repeatedly hermetically
sealed with adhesive tape. These types of bags should
be used to store parts that are to be removed and
reused. Stored parts will therefore be less subject to
the risk of impurities.
• from clothing,
• from cloth,
- foreign bodies such as hair,
- ambient air,
These bags can only be used once: once they have
been used, they are to be discarded.

WARNING
Cleaning the engine using a high pressure washer
is prohibited because of the risk of damaging con-
nections. In addition, moisture may collect in the
connectors and create electrical connection faults.
4 - Cleaning products
Two cleaning products can be used:
- an injector cleaning product (part no. 77 11 224 188 ),
- an aerosol spray brake cleaning product (part no. 77
11 226 128 ).
1 - Cleaning cloths
Use lint free cleaning cloths (part no. 77 11 211 707 ).
When using the injector cleaning product make sure
that you also have to hand a brush in good condition
(bristles should not fall out easily) as well as a clean
container.
It is forbidden to use ordinary paper or cloth: when
used, they leave bits of fluff or fragments or paper and
thus contaminate the fuel circuit.
Each cloth can only be used once.
Note:
Use a new injector cleaning product for each opera-
tion (cleaning products that have been used
become contaminated).
2 - Blanking plugs
Blanking plugs are used to prevent impurities from en-
tering the fuel circuit once it has been opened.

II - ADVICE TO BE FOLLOWED BEFORE ANY
OPERATION
Hermetically seal the bag with adhesive tape, even if
you need to open the bag shortly afterwards: ambient
air can be a source of pollution.
1) Carry out operations in clean working areas and en-
sure that removed parts are protected from dust and
impurities by placing them in bags that can be hermeti-
cally sealed.
It is strictly forbidden to use a brush, cleaning product,
air gun, swab or standard cloth after the fuel circuit has
been opened: these items are likely to allow impurities
to enter the system.
2) Before any operation, always order the following
from the Parts Department:
If a component is to be replaced by a new one or refit-
ted after having been stored in a plastic bag, you
should only unwrap the component when it is time to
position it on the vehicle.

IV - CLEANING

There are two procedures for cleaning the fuel circuit
before opening it for an operation.
- les pièces à remplacer systématiquement after
each removal operation; these are detailed in the
operation procedures specific to each vehicle (see
the relevant Workshop Repair Manual).
These procedures allow you to clean the fuel circuit in
a way that prevents contamination: they both produce
the same result and neither is preferred over the other.
3) Wear protective glasses with side protection in order
to avoid cleaning products coming into contact with
your eyes.
1 - Cleaning using injector cleaning product
With reference to the operation procedures specific to
the vehicle (see the relevant Workshop Repair Ma-
nual), make sure that you can access the unions to be
opened.
4) Wear protective gloves made from latex so that clea-
ning products do not come into contact with your skin
for a long time.
Protect the areas susceptible to fuel flow.
Pour the injector cleaning product into a clean contai-
ner.
Note:
If you use protective gloves made from leather,
cover them with latex gloves.
IMPORTANT
Wear latex gloves when using the cleaning product.
5) Protect the following before any operation on the in-
jection system, using, for example, plastic bags or
clean cloths:
Dip a clean brush into the container, making sure that
no bristles are left in the cleaning product.
- the accessories and timing belts,
- electrical accessories (starter, alternator, power as-
sisted steering pump, sensors and electrical connec-
tors),
IMPORTANT
Wear glasses with side protection during the opera-
tion.
- the flywheel face.
Carefully clean the unions to be opened using the
brush and injector cleaning product.
III - INSTRUCTIONS TO BE FOLLOWED DURING
THE OPERATION
Blow compressed air over the cleaned parts (tools,
workbench, parts, unions and injection system area).
Check that no bristles from the brush have come away
and that the area is clean.
Wash your hands before and during the operation.
Change the latex gloves when they become soiled or
damaged.
Wipe the cleaned sections with new cloths.
All components removed from the injection system
must be stored in a hermetically sealed plastic bag
once they have been capped.
Open the circuit at the union and fit the appropriate
blanking plugs straight away.

WARNING
To prevent impurities from entering, once the fuel
circuit has been opened, it must not be blasted with
compressed air. Only use cleaning cloths, if neces-
sary.
2 - Cleaning with brake cleaning product
With reference to the operation procedures specific to
the vehicle (see the relevant Workshop Repair Ma-
nual), make sure that you can access the unions to be
opened.
Protect the areas susceptible to fuel flow.
IMPORTANT
Wear latex gloves when using the cleaning product.
IMPORTANT
Wear glasses with side protection during the opera-
tion.
Spray the brake cleaning product on the unions to be
opened.
Carefully clean the unions to be opened using new
cloths.
Blow compressed air over the cleaned parts (tools,
workbench, parts, unions and injection system area).
Check that no bristles from the brush have come away
and that the area is clean.
Open the circuit at the union and fit the appropriate
blanking plugs straight away.
