Overview
The SCXI-1104 is a 32 differential channel multiplexer that can
read voltage levels of up to ±42 V. The lowpass noise filters and
instrumentation amplifiers on every channel are ideal for
medium voltage transducers and other low bandwidth analog
signals. Each SCXI-1104 module multiplexes the 32
conditioned signals into a single channel of the DAQ board or
module. You can use several SCXI-1104 modules together to
multiplex hundreds of inputs into a single channel on a DAQ
board or module.
With DAQ boards that perform hardware SCXI scanning
(60xxE, 1200 Series), you can multiplex input channels, at rates
to 3 µs per channel (333 kS/s). A scan clock signal from the DAQ
board or module synchronizes the scanning.
Digital Control and SCXIbus Interface
Digital control circuitry manages the routing of multiplexed signals
to and from the SCXIbus and rear signal connector, which you can
cable to a plug-in DAQ board. Several SCXI modules can operate
in this manner with a single DAQ board or module. Control
circuitry also includes a Module ID register, which can be read via
software for module identification.
The SCXI-1104 also includes a calibration EEPROM, which
stores calibration constants for each input channel. The calibration
EEPROM includes calibration constants that are measured at the
factory and protected from modification. The calibration EEPROM
also includes additional user-modifiable constants for calibration
under your exact operating conditions. National Instruments
driver software transparently uses the calibration constants to
correct for gain and offset errors of each channel.
Communications to and from the SCXI-1104 module is
implemented using digital I/O lines of the DAQ board or
module. Therefore, using an SCXI system in multiplexed mode
will reserve up to four digital output and one digital input lines
of the DAQ board or SCXI DAQ module.
Description
Analog Input
Each channel of the SCXI-1104 includes precision attenuation
circuitry, an instrumentation amplifier, and lowpass noise filter.
The first stage of each channel consists of a 10 to 1 resistor
network, which reduces the signal level by a factor of 10. Then,
the incoming signal is passed through an instrumentation
amplifier and 2 Hz lowpass noise filter. Because the SCXI-1104
includes an amplifier and filter on every channel, you can scan
SCXI-1104 channels at the full hardware rate (to 3 µs per
channel). Each channel is capable of conditioning signals up to
±42 V.
Multiplexer
The SCXI-1104 multiplexes the 32 conditioned inputs onto channel
MCH0 of the rear signal connector, which you can connect to a
single channel of the DAQ board or to the SCXIbus for routing to
an SCXI DAQ module.
Signal Connection
Input signals connect to labeled screw terminals located in the
SCXI-1300 terminal block, which plugs directly onto the front of

the module. Alternatively you can connect input signals to the
TBX-96 DIN rail mountable screw terminal block or the
BNC-2095 with 32 BNC connectors. You must configure the
inputs of the BNC-2095 to disable the signal referencing
circuitry. Both the TBX-96 and the BNC-2095 are rack-
mountable and cable to the SCXI-1104 with the SH96-96 or
R96-96 cable. See Table 1 for more information.

Connection to DAQ Device
If you are using a PC plug-in DAQ board or DAQCard, you
connect the SCXI-1104 to the DAQ device with the appropriate
SCXI cable assembly. If you are using more than one SCXI
module, you need to cable only one SCXI module to the plug-
in DAQ board. If you are using the SCXI-1200 DAQ module,
with either a serial or parallel port connection to the PC,
conditioned signals from the SCXI-1104 are passed along the
SCXIbus in the backplane of the chassis to the SCXI-1200 DAQ
module. If you are using a PXI DAQ device in a PXI-1010 chassis,
communication and conditioned signals are passed along the
chassis backplane to the DAQ device automatically.
