STEP 5/ST V7.2 Edition 11/01 ============================================================================ Product Information: ------------------- The product information can be read without installing the product. Open the Readme.wri file in the STEP 5 folder on the CD ROM STEP 5. Installation: ------------- You can install the product under MS-DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95/98/ME or Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. For a more detailed description of the installation procedure, refer to 'INSTALLATION' in the Product Information. Installation from CD-ROM: Select your CD-ROM drive and change to the lw:\STEP5\STEP5.INS directory Double-click INSTALL.EXE Caution: The environment variable TMP must be set before the installation and the specified directory must exist and not be write-protected! Example: SET TMP=C:\TMP Directory Structure: -------------------- STEP 5/ST uses a predefined directory structure. System directory Dr:\system_directory\S5_SYS\ This contains all the program and system files required for running STEP 5/ST. Do not make any changes whatsoever within the system directory. You can make the system directory read-only with the exception of subdirectory S5_COM\). The system directory contains the following subdirectories: S5_COM\ Com adapter for V5 & V6 COM packages (must not be RO!) S5_COM\COM_DB1\ COM DB 1 S5_COM\PG_PG\ PG-PG link EXAMPLE\ STEP 5/ST sample programs DR_INI\ Shipped printer parameter files (*DR.INI) AP_INI\ Shipped path files (*AP.INI) S5_INST\ Installation components Home Directory Dr:\home_directory\S5_HOME\ Device-specific files are stored here. These are the batch files required for startup, various INI files describing the workstation, and printer parameter files and path files modified by the user (DR.INI and AP.INI). S5_DATEN Dr:\home_directory\S5_DATEN\ Following installation, this is the default directory for STEP 5/ST user data. SINEC C:\SINEC This contains the shipped MS-DOS drivers for SINEC L2 and H1 (SIMATIC NET network drivers). This directory is not created if you install in Windows ME or Windows NT/2000/XP! S5_INFO C:\S5_INFO This contains the product information, readme files and instructions. The default for the system and home directories is C:\STEP5. Any previous version of STEP 5/ST (V6.x or lower) on your system is not overwritten! Note: Please note that on a programming device with the operating systems MS-DOS, Windows 3.x and Windows 95/98/ME, there must be only one system directory and one home directory even if you install STEP 5/ST several times in succession. For subsequent installations in multi-user mode in Windows 98, you must always use the same STEP 5 directories! In the Windows NT/2000/XP operating system (and only in this operating system), separate users can create their own STEP 5 directories . Changes to the Configuration Files: ----------------------------------- Note: In Windows NT/2000/XP the configuration is set via the start files and the Windows registry, not with AUTOEXEC and CONFIG. This is also partially true for Windows ME. INSTALL makes the following changes automatically. The actual entries made depend on where you install the directories! AUTOEXEC.BAT: SET S5_SYSTEM=C:\STEP5\S5_SYS SET S5_HOME=C:\STEP5\S5_HOME PATH=......;C:\STEP5\S5_HOME CONFIG.SYS: SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM /e:2048 /p This line must be adapted to your system. The environment size /e:2048 should be approximately 1 K more than the actual size used. 2 K, as in the example, are adequate for most system configurations. The following modifications are not made by the installation program. They are only relevant for COMs. COM DB1 and PG-PG Link run in the free 550 K (or more) DOS memory. CONFIG.SYS: DEVICE=C:\....\HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:OFF DEVICE=C:\....\EMM386.EXE NOEMS FILES=32 The programming device must be rebooted after you have made the changes! Caution: The COMSPEC variable is normally set correctly by the system. If the entry SET COMSPEC = exists in AUTOEXEC.BAT, no long name must be used in it. Example: Windows 95 is in the directory: C:\WINDOWS_95. The name WINDOWS_95 is then a long name. In this case, the entry SET COMSPEC=C:\WINDO~1\COMMAND.COM must be made in AUTOEXEC.BAT. Otherwise, Windows 95 enters COMSPEC=C:\WINDOWS_95\COMMAND.COM in the environment. STEP 5/ST cannot run with this setting! In the Windows NT operating system, STEP 5/ST also installs the following files in the Windows system directory ...\SYSTEM32\...: - S5_VDD.DLL S7ONLINX.DLL MFC40D.DLL MSVCR40D.DLL - DRIVERS\S5MCD.SYS DRIVERS\S5AS511.SYS When these files are installed, entries and modifications are made in the Windows registry. Note: These files in the Windows system directory can also be used by other "non STEP 5" applications! These files are therefore managed in the registry using installation counters. They can only be uninstalled when the installation counter "releases" the file. The file S5AS511.VXD is installed in the Windows system directory ...\SYSTEM\... under Windows 98/ME. Programming Device Requirements for STEP 5/ST V7.x: ---------------------------------------------------- - MS-DOS higher than 5.0 or Windows 3.x or Windows 95 or Windows 98 or Windows ME or Windows NT 4.0 (service pack 3 recommended) or Windows 2000 or Windows XP - Hard disk space: at least 21 Mbytes for local installation - Free DOS memory: 550 Kbytes - XMS must exist (min. 2 Mbytes) (HIMEM.SYS) - File names must not include umlauts - Parallel port for external prommer: Standard printer port (not EPP, not ECP) LPT1: 378h, IRQ 7 LPT2: 278h, IRQ 5 LPT3: 3BCh, IRQ 7 You can select the LPT1...3 port with INSTALL. Uninstalling in Windows NT/2000/XP: ----------------------------------- There is an uninstaller for the Windows NT/2000/XP operating system. You can remove the STEP 5/ST entries from the Windows registry and the files created for STEP 5/ST in the Windows system directory file by file synchronized with other applications. To start the uninstaller in Windows NT/2000/XP: Start the Explorer, select A: double-click UNINST32.EXE, or double-click Dr:\system_directory\S5_SYS\S5_INST\UNINST32.EXE. The following components of STEP 5/ST are uninstalled: - All STEP 5/ST system files in %S5_SYSTEM% - Files of the types S5*.* and Step5?.txt in C:/S5_INFO - S5_VDD.DLL (if free) in %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32 - S7ONLINX.DLL (if free) in %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32 - S5MCD.SYS (if free) in %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS - S5AS511.SYS (if free) in %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS - Start menu STEP5 in %SystemRoot%\...\Startmenu\Simatic - All registry entries made by STEP 5/ST The following components are not uninstalled: - All user files in %S5_HOME% and %S5_DATEN% - MFC40D.DLL and MSVCR40D.DLL in %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32 New Function of the V7.2: 1.Additional program "STEP 5 PRINT" The program S5Print.exe enables the printing of STEP 5 documents to printers installed under MS Windows. The instructions (S5Print?.pdf) can be found in S5_info directory. 2.Additional program "STEP 5 EPROM" The program S5Eprom.exe enables the programming of S5EPROM / EEPROM modules and the S5 memory cards via the SIMATIC USB Prommer. The instructions (S5Eprom?.exe) can be found in S5_info directory. Please refer to the documentation on USB Prommer for functional limitations! 3.Brief instruction on "STEP 5-CP5x11 as L2 interface" The brief description s5cp511?.pdf can be found in S5_info directory. 4.In the STEP 5 management "Edit EPROM " the new function "Create EPROM" from a "binary file" has been added for the internal and external Prommer. The additional program STEP 5 EPROM contains the same funtion for the USB Prommer. The program enables the programming of S5EPROM / EEPROM modules and the S5 memory cards via SIMATIC USB Prommer. For funtional limitations please refer to the documentation on USB Prommer! Known problems: 1.Windows 2000 uses QuickEdit as the default editor for all DOS windows. This standard setting does not allow the mouse to be used for the selection of menu commands in STEP 5. Remedy: After right-clicking on the title bar of the DOS window, select the menu item "Properties". In the "Options" tab of the Command Prompt Properties dialog box, clear the check box "QuickEdit Mode". 2.Search, standard output of the cross-reference list, and the link with a block via the cross-reference list (X-Ref output) is not possible for the addresses: expanded periphery (Q), the system data and extended system data (BS and BT), the interface connection and extended interface connection (BA and BB). 3.ACPI: It is possible to activate ACPI under Windows 98. In this case, the operating system manages all hardware components. This results in the no-load switiching of COMx and LPTx ports during system start up. This condition is automatically corrected by the system when a WIN32 applicat...
