What is this? This is the 3ivx Delta 3.5 Video Codec for Windows. It will enable your computer to play 3ivx video and to encode 3ivx video. What is 3ivx video? 3ivx video is a modern video compression system which allows high quality video in unprecedented file sizes. You could store over 2 hours of near DVD quality video on a single CD-ROM. You could stream near DVD quality video over a cable modem or DSL modem. With the 3ivx Video Codec, you CAN do this. What are the requirements? 3ivx for Windows requires QuickTime 4.0 or greater and Windows 95, 98, 98SE, Millennium, NT, 2000 or XP. How do I install this? Simply double click the "Install.exe" application, on NT systems you will need to be logged in as an Administrator. How do I manually install this? To manually install on Windows 95, 98, 98SE, Millennium and XP: Copy the "3ivx Delta 3.5.qtx" codec into the "c:\windows\system\quicktime" folder To manually install on Windows NT and 2000: Copy the "3ivx Delta 3.5.qtx" codec into the "c:\win32\system32\quicktime" folder Uninstalling To remove 3ivx from Windows 95, 98, 98SE, Millenium and XP: Remove the 3ivx codec from the "c:\windows\system\quicktime" folder To remove 3ivx from Windows NT and 2000: Remove the 3ivx codec from the "c:\win32\system32\quicktime" folder Playback Tips - 3ivx is optimized for True Colour (32 bit). - Using QuickTime Pro's Present Movie feature allows 3ivx to access more CPU resources, and thus it will have better performance. (This may not be true in some Windows environments). - The "Open URL?" command in QuickTime Player's "File" menu allows you to directly view internet based movies by typing in (or pasting) their URL. You can use this to present these movies in Full Screen mode. Downloading 3ivx Files The first time you try to watch a .3iv movie you'll get an 'Open With' dialog. Choose 'Quicktime Player Application' in the dialog and make sure the 'Always use this program to open these files' checkbox is checked. Click OK and watch the .3iv file play! About 3ivx Video Encoding: This is the free test version of 3ivx Delta 3.5 and includes FULL playback functions, and only allows basic control of the 3ivx Video encoder. None the less, you can use this codec to generate some of the best quality low bitrate video available today. This version of the codec operates in FULL-VBR mode only. You specify a quality, and that is the quality you get. The final file size is purely dependant on the complexity of your video (ie how much action there is, and how much average detail is in each scene) and what quality setting you chose. 75% and up are good values. 100% can be excessive. There are other versions of 3ivx available for sale, including a $10 version. This version allows you to specify a final average data rate, artifact reduction and a minimum quality to be maintained. Essentially, this takes the guesswork out of encoding. With your 3ivx Personal Encoder you will be able to create QuickTime movies which have the best quality for a given bitrate.
