Drakon’s Treasure
Prologue
All myths and legends have basis in fact. And so it is with the dragons of Amanas.
Once a prosperous and progressive planet, Amanas was home to many different cultures
and species. Dragons, wizards, magic and man all existed side by side, if not always
harmoniously, then at least with a certain tolerance.
But dragons have always been a solitary and suspicious species, fighting amongst each other
for land and treasure and mates. Over time, they declined almost to the point of extinction. Male
representatives from each of the four families of dragons—Mountain, Sea, Forest and Desert—
went to the wizards seeking help to save their species.
It is well know that wizards generally have little interest in anything beyond themselves and
their magic, but the wizard Allisdar chose to listen to the dragons’ plea. He cast a spell, allowing
each male dragon to shift into a human form for the span of a year. In that time, the dragon lords
mated with as many female humans as they could.
Unfortunately, the women were ignorant to the true nature of the men they were mating
with. A handful of these women bore children, all sons who seemed as normal as any other. Until
they hit puberty. Then the change began. Mothers were horrified, villages were terrified, and the
boys were cast out. The dragon lords returned to claim their offspring and to raise them.
A new species had been created, neither human nor dragon, but both. Blessed with the
longevity, instincts and strength of dragons, but with the cunning intellect and heart of man,
these boys soon grew into powerful males able to shift and live as either man or beast. They were
named Drakons, or sons of the dragons. In time, they provided a bridge between the dragons and
mankind, becoming trusted advisors and legendary warriors to the kings and rulers of Amanas.
But greed and mistrust grew amongst the human kings. They feared their Drakon lords and
coveted the treasures that they were continually amassing over the passing years. Rising up in a
concerted effort, the human rulers tricked their loyal warriors. Blood flowed and many were
slain.
