Short-term unlock (effect lost after soft reset)
To unlock the TS first start device. Then using the stylus, do a soft reset by inserting the stylus in the
small Reset hole and at the same time keep the Flag (second button, under On/Off, ) pressed.
You will notice that after restart there will be a text line on top and a thin (1-2mm) gray line appears on
the bottom of the screen. That is the Windows taskbar. Tap on it and will be “open”.

Mid-term unlock (effect lost just after hard reset)
The short-term unlock is not “persistent”, after a soft or hard reset, the device will be locked again.
To have the device unlocked for longer time (even after a soft reset) we need to change a small key
inside the PNA's registry.
To achieve this, we need to prepare a SD Card first or to use the My Flash Disk. The files stored inside
My Flash Disk are not lost even after a soft or hard reset. So it seems to be a good place to store our
Tools. In this tutorial I will use the Flash Disk (as it is the configuration I use).
Connect the Transonic using the usb cable to the PC and using ActiveSync make a connection between
them. Using Explore from ActiveSync make a folder Tools on My Flash Disk then copy the regedit.exe
to that folder (you'll find it in ForMyFlash.zip archive). From the unlocked Transonic press Start,
Programs, Windows Explorer and navigate to My Flash Disk\Tools and start regedit.exe
NOTE: Do not be afraid! Any modification you make is safe, if you make something wrong it is enough to hard
reset the device and everything will be same as when you first time started the TS after you bought it :)
Using regedit.exe expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and tap on “init” key. On the right panel
you will see a list of values. One of them “Launch80” points to the ST.EXE that is the original loader
(responsible with loading Navigon software). You have 2 options
delete the key (not tested, but it should work)
rename the ST.EXE to ST2.EXE (some non existing file name, so loader will be skipped).
In order to rename, use the keyboard (click on the last icon in tray icon, has some pencil icon, the
click on the Keyboard option in the menu and keyboard will appear). Double tap on Launch80 and
edit the ST.EXE in the window that appears. Close regedit.exe. Now the navigon will not be loaded
anymore automatically after a soft reset. You are free to create shortcuts to some other apps that you
want to automatically start after reset and place the shortcuts in \Windows\StartUp folder
NOTE: Navigon you can start any time directly from the original SD card.

Long-term unlock (effect remains the same even after hard-reset)
= RECOMMENDED! =
This is the SIMPLER way to unlock the device. When using this approach, even after a hard reset or if
the battery is fully discharged, the device will startup exactly how you want it.
To unlock permanently the Transonic you just need to unzip the ForSDRoot.zip archive (links at
the end of document) to the root folder of a SD card, insert the SD card in the slot and perform a
soft reset. The “unlock effect” lasts until the next hard reset without having this SD card in the
memory slot! As long as you keep the SD card in the slot, the unlock procedure will be
automatically performed after each reset.
If you like to deeper customize the Transonic you can take a look at the details below:
* ForMyFlash.zip (OPTIONAL) contains files that should be placed in the My Flash Disk (if possible
keep the folder structure that is in the zip, so Tools are in the Root of My Flash Disk). Use ActiveSync,
Explore method to copy the files to My Flash Disk. Mainly they are just useful tools and utilities:
Calculator, DivxPlayer (tcpmp), File managers, File Viewers (doc, pdf), MP3 Player, Pocket Notepad,
Regedit, ScreenRotate.
NOTE: MemSet2.exe is a small program (written by me) that is used to set the automatically the amount of
memory for storage (in KB, first command line parameter). If you mainly use navigation software it is maybe useful to
allow them to use as many application-RAM as possible.
TIP! Personally I use Wolf NCU as “loader”. Mode details you find at
* ForSDRoot.zip (MANDATORY)contains files that must be places in the root of a SD Card. Do not
touch the original SD card that came with the device if you do not want to use Navigon as navigation
software, use another SD (at least for tests)
autorunce.exe = will be called right after hard-reset, it executes the autorunce.mscr script file
autorunce.mscr = script file (can be edited on PC and then overwritten), performs system tasks
mnavdce.cab = must be present there (does not matter what is inside, important is the name)
MortScript.exe = powerful script engine (used to execute the script tasks)
mortzip.dll = required by mortscript.exe
showhidetaskbar.exe = very handy utility: every time it is executed it toggles the state of the
windows taskbar; if the taskbar is invisible, becomes visible, and if visible is hidden.

To be sure the unlock works without problems in the ZIP I included a short version of the script,
that does just unlocking and creates a shortcut for ShowHideTaskbar on Desktop and StartUp.
An extended version of the script you can find inside ForMyFlash.zip (also listed below):

Reset
Now after a hard-reset you will be prompted to set the clock, then device will make automatically a
soft-reset and it will start unlocked and with your custom settings.
Performing hard reset
In order to perform a hard reset to your device, turn off the device by keeping On button pressed more
that 6 seconds, then release it. Then press it again for more that 6 seconds and device will start as it was
when you bought it.
NOTE: After a hard reset you will loose the applications installed on PNA (just My
Flash Disk and SD Card data will remain available)
DISCLAIMER: Remember the changes are not “for ever”, any time you want to revert back to the
factory state it is enough to perform a hard-reset without any SD card in the slot.
