f you’ve wondered why the kind of edgy, extreme BDSM comic art in which TABOO ILLUS-
TRATED specializes is so hard to find elsewhere, either in print or on the Internet, you may
suspect that the heavy hand of the thankfully soon-to-be-history administration of George
W. Bush has once again come down on your right as a consenting adult to view legal adult
imagery in the privacy of your own home. And you wouldn’t be entirely wrong.
Censorship has been privatized. By a mysterious coincidence, not long after the Bush posse
made good on its promise to the credit card companies to abolish individual bankruptcy pro-
tections as we’ve known them (just in time for the collapse of the real estate market and the
unprecedented hike in consumer BK filings that followed), transaction processors began send-
ing out warnings to webmasters about “unacceptable content” that could result in the loss of
accounts.
And just what kind of “content” would that be? Here are a couple of times from a list of help-
ful hints one credit card company sent out to its clients regarding content that “might” result
in the termination of accounts:
“Depiction of any non-consensual sexual behavior:
Depiction of non-consensual mutilation of a person or body part This definition of 'depiction' is
intended to include computer-generated images, cartoons, simulation or any other media as well
as photographic or video imagery.”
What concerns TABOO ILLUSTRATED readers directly is the last paragraph, which deals with
the definition of “depiction.” When these all-important cash conduits start unplugging accounts
over cartoons and CGI images, especially those involving someone’s highly subjective definitions
of ”non-consensual” or “mutilation” (which could include an ear-piercing for all we know), we
see a systematic attempt to purge the public sphere of images that define our fantasy lives.
Such restrictions could be as easily applied to BDSM chat and educational sites and publica-
tions as to entertainment material.
And because the restraints in question are imposed by private companies rather than through
government censorship, First Amendment standards don’t apply.
What can we do about this? We can’t vote corporate bosses out of office, but we can starve them
out. Demand that these hypocrites supply you with what you want, or vote with your money for
someone who will.

COULD YOU PLEASE BE MORE SPECIFIC?
Last time I wrote (for issues #1 and #2) I said that I was eagerly awaiting their arrival.
Upon getting them, I am not disappointed. Ferres’s Harem—Cut clean and a good
story line so far. Tim—great figure-study material with an evil twist. What more could
a fantasy addict want than what Roberts gives us? His is an imagination trip that gives
me shivers. His girls are great! Badia—Another form of art that forces the viewer to
imagine what goes on in the artist’s mind. Great renderings of the human body.
Templeton—to me, not the best, but every panel still worth reading and looking at.
Erenisch—Don’t care for his stuff at all, but it’s tolerable. Hines—Crude and cruel
make for interesting themes. Don’t need a story line with this artist. I find myself
studying every one of his drawings. Agnes—I don’t really care for this type of artwork.
It’s too stiff. Still, some good thought goes info the mechanical hardware used on her
subjects. And then there’s Doval. Doval Wow! What an incredible personal trip into the
fantasy world! A viewer who can sit on the shoulder of “Laurie” and feel every emo-
tion she endures in her captive state has to feel sick to her pain in both the stomach
and the heart. Artwork is total perfection in nearly every detail—crisp, precise, and
thought-provoking. Doval’s mechanical contrivances are well thought out and rendered
as well. I’ve rambled on long enough I guess. But I thought I would let you know what
my personal feelings as a 68-year-old man who has looked at a lot of kinky art over the
years are regarding your fine publication. I truly enjoy this TABOO ILLUSTRATED and
look forward to many forthcoming issues.

SLAVMART WINS THEIR HEARTS
Okay, so the style of Erenisch’s Slavmart series is a little more cartoony and a little
less slick than Doval’s or Templeton’s stuff, but my sister slave elle and I love it! The
little submissive girls are so sweet and cute and the sex is really hot. Nothing wrong
with bondage and torture and all that, but a girls gotta have some fun along with it.

MAD FOR MADHOUSE
I’ve just picked up TABOO ILLUSTRATED #4, having eagerly devoured the first three
issues, and I can see Templeton’s Siberian Madhouse is going to be even hotter than
Junta Hell. I really appreciate his soft, curvy, pin-up-type girls and the ingenious sex-
ual torments he puts them through. The aphrodisiac shots in Madhouse are a great
touch. Poor Irina has to suffer through her whole ordeal in a constant state of horni-
ness, right along with the reader.
