The Callan Method teaches English in a quarter of the normal time.
Instead of taking the usual 350 hours (four academic years) to get the
average student through the Cambridge Preliminary, it takes only 80
hours (one academic year), and only 160 hours for the Cambridge First
Certificate.
Private schools using the Method are able to give all their students a
legally-valid written guarantee that if they fail their Cambridge, state-
school or university exams in the predicted number of hours, they will be
given free lessons until successful. For these exams most Callan Method
schools have a 95 % pass rate, compared with the international average of
about 70%.
Such schools are also able to allow their students to take trial lessons
before signing on, and to pay on results if they are sceptical of the
Method's claims.
The Method can guarantee an excellent result with virtually every student.
It involves little or no homework, and is easy, interesting and pleasant to
use.
It is suitable for students of all ages and for all purposes of study. It
requires no equipment (not even a blackboard) or other books, and can be
used for any size of class at private schools, state schools or universities.
The Method can also be used in a "Teach Yourself" manner, and students
can learn with it by practising with each other. It can also be used
successfully by non-professional teachers without qualifications or
experience, and enables anyone to open a Callan Method school without
any knowledge of the teaching of English.

Introduction
This book explains to anyone wishing to open a Callan Method school (or
chain of schools), how to go about it. The book also explains how such a
school is organised and run.
No experience or qualifications are required for opening and running a
Callan Method school; virtually anyone can do it.
Also, little or no capital is required if the individual goes about it in the
right way. Furthermore, nothing has to be paid in royalties to the Callan
Method Organisation, and no permission is needed to use the Method.
A Callan Method school is like a shop, a restaurant or a hotel, but, unlike
such businesses, it does not require experienced or qualified staff. This is
because Callan Method teachers can be trained in five days, and can even
train themselves. The person running the school, therefore, has only to
concern himself with the accounts, wages, publicity and so on, the same as
with any other small business.
Naturally, it helps if the person opening a Callan Method school is
English, has a certain amount of capital and business experience, and has
already taught with the Callan Method, but such advantages are by no
means essential. Drive, energy, and the ability to learn quickly are far
more important.
If the person opening the school is not English, he can employ an English
Head Teacher to handle the teaching side of the business for him.
The advantages of opening a Callan Method school in preference to any
other school are as follows:-
1. The Method on offer to the public can do the job in a quarter of the time
taken by any other method on the market, and can therefore be so
successful, it can bring in double the income of a normal English-language
school.
