USA16/04 20:33 CET Guman kills at least 22 in a shooting rampage at an American
university
At least 22 people have been killed in a shooting rampage at a university campus
in Virginia in the United States. A similar number were injured in the incident
at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg. The circumstances are still unclear
but it appears a lone gunman began opening fire around 7am local time.
The shootings occurred in two separate locations on the campus two hours apart.
It's thought most of the fatalities occurred in the second location, a students'
hall of residence. The gunman is thought to be among those who died. It's
understood that at one stage the assailant walked into a classroom and opened
fire.
At least some of the victims are students. It's one of the worst shootings on a
campus in the United States since Charles Whitman shot 15 people dead at the
University of Texas in Austin.
