The ner the details, the more fascinating the model. Gently open the bonnet of a 1:43
miniature, and you’ll nd a lifelike reproduction of a real engine. Or carefully study the
interior of a 1:12 model. The longer you look at it, the more it feels like you should just
be able to get in, sit down and drive off. Each scale has its own attraction; below is a
summary of the main points.
The models actually depicted on the following pages are always marked with a dot.
Whether you encounter BMW on a twisting B-road or
on a polished wooden desk, in 1:1 or 1:87 scale – it will
always be a thrilling sight.
1:12 Opening doors, bonnets and boot lids characterise the 1:12 models. The interiors
even feature carpeting and leather upholstery. Plastics and zinc die cast processes
are used to reproduce minute vehicle elements. The result – a high level of detail and
fascination that you can touch.
What captures the attention is the amazing attention to
detail, apparent even in the smallest scale models.
1:18 Models of this size offer a good look at the engine and chassis. Their interiors are
of a high quality, with forms and colours that are true to life, sometimes down to the use
of carpeting. The look is that of the original. Proud print details enhance the look and feel
further – no wonder this is the classic scale for model cars.
A love of detail is re ected in the months of painstaking
development, where handcraftsmanship and a total of
often more than 100 individual manufacturing operations
result in a little masterpiece.
1:24 This, the most traditional scale originated in America, but has long since conquered
the world. Collectors appreciate the multitude of tiny details clustered together. And the
ligree-like, zinc die cast body.

are more than simply scaled-down copies of the original.

1:43 These miniatures are so small that even a large collection won’t require much
space. Their painstaking workmanship is what fascinates collectors, especially in Europe
and Japan. The bonnet, which allows a look at the engine, demonstrates particularly well
how much room for detail there is even in the smallest BMW Miniatures.

1:87 This model scale was rst used in H0-size model railways. The nely detailed
miniatures are made of plastic. Delicate engravings on the body, tiny print features and
individually assembled steering wheels, mirrors and lights are a delight and surprise even
