Christmas Party Instructions
FamilyLife and Exclaim Entertainment have partnered to create this Christmas Party Activity Guide
designed to teach the true reason for the season. Adults and children alike can enjoy the one-day
or extended days festivities at school, church, or home. We pray that your Christmas experience is
unforgettable!

* Purchase items 1, 2, and 5 online @www.WhatGodWantsForChristmas.com.
Supplies and equipment:
1. Enclosed coloring sheets (make a copy of all seven sheets for each child attending)
2. Enclosed Christmas ornament craft (make one copy for each child)
3. Enclosed Christmas Family Fun Night Take Home Activity sheet (make one copy for each child)
4. Crayons/markers
5. Scissors
6. Glue
7. Ribbon
8. TV and DVD player
9. CD player
10. Optional: Polaroid camera and ilm (one picture per child)
Steps for success:
1. Pray for God to help the children understand the true Christmas message.
2. Prepare all copies and supplies the week before the party.
3. Unpack and become familiar with each product: Listen to the CD, watch the DVD, and read
through the nativity story.
4. Organize group by size (see below).
5. Create stations.
6. Use imagination with decorations, snacks, etc., for a memorable preschooler experience.
Set-up:
1. Divide the children into ive equal groups.
2. Set-up the ive activities in different rooms, if possible.

need to be in separate rooms.
3. Rotate each group through each activity.
4. Provide time for each activity by determining how much total time is available. The DVD is 22
minutes and the audio CD is 19:10 minutes.
An example of making it happen:
Decorate ive rooms and place one of the ive party activities in each room. When the children have
arrived, divide them into ive even numbered groups. Rotate each group through each room until all
activities have been completed. (Allow twenty ive minutes for each activity.)

Room one
: Display the

pop-up nativity and each numbered box.
As the story is read, choose one child to open the corresponding numbered box and place the
igure in the nativity. When the last box is opened, have that child show the mirror to each child
so they can see their relection. (Explain that God wants
them
for Christmas!)
•
Room two
: Set up a few big tables with crayons and markers in the middle of each. As the
children enter, each should receive one of each of the seven coloring sheets (these sheets represent
each igure in the numbered boxes in the
What God Wants for Christmas
nativity). If the children
don’t inish all seven coloring sheets, they can take them home to be inished.

Room three
: Arrange large tables with the following items in the middle (make sure to have three
or four of each item to maintain the attention span): age-appropriate scissors, glue, pre-cut ribbon
(about three inches long), and crayons. Distribute the Christmas ornament activity sheet and give
craft instructions. Prepare a sample beforehand for the children.

Room four
: Provide a big open space for the children to sit on the loor with one chair and one
table at the front. Have the CD player with the

CD ready to go. As the CD is played, encourage the kids to sing along with familiar music.
As the narrator tells the story, turn the pages accordingly. When the CD is inished (19 minutes),
turn to the back of the book and read the last page titled “Give God What He Wants.”

Room ive
: Prepare a big open sitting space. Have a TV and DVD player set up with

DVD. Once the children are seated, tell them they’re about to watch a video about
Christ’s birth, the reason we celebrate Christmas, as told by one of the three wise men. Once the
DVD is inished and time permits, ask questions about the story to stimulate discussion about the
real reason we celebrate Christmas!
