While NEAR Shoemaker orbits minor planet (433) Eros, the body appears too large for the camera’s field
of view. This spectacular view – looking down on the north polar region – therefore was mosaicked from
six images taken February 29, 2000, from an altitude of about 200 kilometers. Features as small as 20 m
