There's noquestion that this most rnccntcyclehas
been ahedicone. Ournewassistanteditordidn't
w«rkout, sowe'reback tolookingforsomeone to fill
that position. In themeantime, alltheediting, layout,
and graphics creation that goes into each issue has
fallen back intomy lap. Inaddition,we've lost our
photographer, Wayne, who wasalsoCMD'srepair
technician.Thelatterspothas been Tilled, butwe'll
need to figure outwhal to dolor photographs in
Upcomingissues. Despitethese hurdles, we've
managed to nudge the page count hack up to 56, and
1 thinkwe've produced a very well-rounded issue. Of
course, 1 may be somewhatbiased.
There'ssomebad news... afewhardwareitems
have quietlydissappeared from the supply chain in
the last (vw months. Notably missing in action:
CMD'sFD-4000,theSuper 1750Clone,
SupcrSnapshot, Action-Replay, VDCRAM Expansion
kits, anddisk drive RAM Expansion kits. These arc
sadlosses, as there reallyaren't any productsleftthat
directly replace orduplicatewhat theseproductsdid.
When suppliers runout of1581 drives, no big deal,
there arc FD-2000drives that can pretty much
directly replace them; but losingboth SuperSnapshot
andAction-Replayleaves users without any means to
captureprogramsfor archiving or operatingIroni
devices like CMD's IID. Expect to see some rise in the
value ofthese items in theused market.
There are some positivethings happening, as well,
though... CMD'sSoperCPU fi4 hasstarted shipping,
andwork on the 128 version is now underway.
Maurice Randall has new versionsofGeoFAXand
GeoSHELI.coiningalong soon, andhe has also
confirmed that he isn'tfarofl'from releasing a new
GHOSdriver/Configurepackage that will reportedly
revolutionizedevicehandlingunder GHOS. Nick
Rossi's Novaterm 9.6 is nowshipping on disk, and
has broughtusZmodem.Ymodem-G, anda lot of
otherImprovements,There areothersoftware
developments under way, too... Mall Desmond
appears to be workingregularly on his new version of
Desterm, Electric Boys recentlysent us some images
created bya new C64interlacedgraphics editor that
they are workingon, and CMD is finishing up
documentation for an English languageversion of
GoDot CMD isalso headingupprojects toproduce a
new 65816assembler (SAS)anda machine language
monitor(SuperJifryMON). both largeted at
SuperCPU developers: there are also indications that
thelong-awaited Menuette 128maybebackon track
for release, along with an updated 64 version. So
there are indeed some thingsfor users to look
forward lo over the uexl lew months.
Meanwhile, ihere are some reallynice things to see
