IHOP-KC Growing in the Prophetic One Day Seminar-7 Thunders              Outline Notes

(version August 2003)

A.              Biblical Foundation

              I. All scriptures are inspired and prophetic in nature.

              2 Tim. 3:16, 2 Pet. 1:19-21

II. A glimpse into Real-time prophetic encounter of Apostle John

              Rev. 19:7-10 a fulfillment of Eph. 4: 9-16, 5:25-26

              III. Worship God! Throne-Centered Paradigm

Genesis to Revelation- God revealed His intense passion and love to redeem for Himself a kingdom of priests forever. He did that by progressively revealing the concept of IMMANU-EL, God’s tabernacle among human beings. Rev. 1:6, Rev. 5:9, Rev. 7:9-12, Is. 7:14, John 1:14

In the book of Hebrew, the Holy Spirit clearly reveals God’s desire for an eternal priesthood according to the order of Melchizedek.    Heb. 7:17

Abraham the first person with the title of a prophet recognized by his contemporary, was primarily an altar builder. Climax in Gen. 22. Abraham was not only a prophet, he was also primarily a priest with deep passion for worship.

IV. Vital Scriptural Truth about Prophetic Ministry.

1. Priesthood of all believers and the testimony of Jesus, the Spirit of Prophesy. Acts. 2:17-18, 1 Cor. 14:1-5, Num. 11:29

2. Prophet- a messenger of God…prophetic ministry exists because God sent prophets. Ex. 4:15-16. We have a God who communicates and we have capacity to perceive and communicate by the Spirit.

3.Temporal Nature of Prophetic Gifts & Office verses eternal nature of priesthood. 1 Cor. 13:8-13.

4. Imperfect and Partial Nature of the Prophetic Functions (the kingdom is here but not in fullness).  1 Cor. 13:9-10.

5. Intimacy and Accuracy- Supremacy and Priority.

Deu. 18:15-22, Deu. 13:1-5

6. Administration of Prophecy according to measure of grace and faith. Rom. 12:6

7. Facilitating widespread prophecy - prophetic schooling  1 Sam. (from the first institutional prophet to many seers and prophets since the period Davidic kingdom)-prophetic counsel Acts 13:1-3

II.  Understanding Prophetic Ministry from the life an individual.

1.              Calling of a Prophet – sovereign call of God

2.            Anointing upon a prophet – diversity of anointing but same Spirit

3.            Schooling of a prophet – God school His prophet by the Spirit and in the Scripture. Scripture provide the basis for the understanding of prophetic realm and symbolism.

4.            Administration of Prophetic Gifts for the purpose of Edification & Evangelism.

                            Gifts are NOT fruits

Historical accuracy does Not guarantee current unction in the prophecy.

Weigh every prophecy prayerfully and corporately. Test every spirit.

Accurate familiar spirit in Acts 16:16-18

III.   Scriptural revelation regarding the various Possibilities and Potentials in Prophetic Expressions. (pg. 180 of Ernest B. Gentiles’ book)

              1.              Prophetic Presence in Worship  (State of prophecy) 1 Cor. 2:12

6.      Prophetic Scripture (Prophecy of Scripture) 2 Pet. 3:16

III.  Developing Prophetic Sensitivity in the Presence of the LORD.

Meditation on the word of God to enhance prophetic sensitivity.

C.              Practical Foundation

1.      The Ladder view verses the Throne-centered view-

We do not relate to one another before the throne of God on the level of our giftedness. Before the glorious presence of God, we can only respond in worship.

2.      Revelation- Interpretation- Application (RIA)

We often received divine revelation during the time of prayer. Revelation can be accompanied by some form interpretation or it may not be. We take revelation to God again for interpretation. Often praying through a divine revelation together in a prophetic counsel will enhance Interpretation. Finally, we seek God in prayer again for the Application of the divine revelation and divine interpretation.

3.      Corporate and Individual Accountability.

There need to be leadership and prophetic accountability in a community open to prophetic expressions.

A small group fellowship is a good avenue to nurture prophetic expressions within a local church. We must provide a safe environment for these expressions to mature. Not all prophetic insight or revelation had to be released to the public or the community at large. Most divine revelation are meant for “prophetic intercession”. We must learn to hold to “secrets that God entrusted us”.

Prophecy with “potential to impact more than one individual live” need to be handle within a clear leadership structure.

Rev 19:10 NIV

Rev 22:9 NIV

10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him.

But he said to me, "

Do not do it!

I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers

who hold to the testimony of Jesus.

Worship God!

For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

9 But he said to me,

"Do not do it!

I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers

the prophets and of all who keep the words of this book.

Worship God!"

List of scriptures:

2 Tim 3:16-17 NIV

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Peter 1:19-21 NIV

And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Rev 1:5-6 NIV

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God

Rev 19:7-10 NIV

7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory!

For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.

8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear."  (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)

9 Then the angel said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!'" And he added, "These are the true words of God." 10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, "Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

Eph 4:10-13 NIV

11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Eph 5:25-27 NIV

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

Rev 5:9-11 NIV

9 And they sang a new song:

"You are worthy to take the scroll

and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God

from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth." 11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders.

Rev 7:9-12 NIV

After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice:

"Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb."

11 All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying:

"Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever.

Amen!"

John 1:14 NIV

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Isa 7:13-14 NIV

14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Heb 7:17 NIV

"You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."

Acts 2:17-18 NIV

17 "'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

1 Cor 14:1-5 NIV

Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. 2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.  3 But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. 4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified.

Num 11:29-30 NIV

29 But Moses replied, "Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the LORD's people were prophets and that the LORD would put his Spirit on them!"

Ex 4:15-17 NIV

5 You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. 16 He will speak ...
