Cover Image: Taken from an illuminated manuscript of the seventeenth century, a rajput king is here
offering obeisance to Krishna. Though not a scene from the Bhagavad Gita, the king’s presence evokes
Krishna’s four-armed Vishnu manifestation, including the mood of awe and reverence found in the
Gita’s pages. Still, the presence of the cows and the gopis, or cowherd maidens, suggest the philosophical
conclusions of the Gaudiya Vaishnavas, which is indeed the emphasis of the current work and harkens
to the real inner meaning of the text.
