Introduction
Military orders became a stable institution during the
crusades that some still survive to this day. While most
have fallen into obscurity, many during their peak
reached tremendous power and were above the law of
the King and answerable only to the church. They pro-
vided military might to crusading knights during the
crusades, while the Brotherhood of the Temple of Solo-
mon, commonly known as Knight Templars, also
founded the modern banking system.
Knightly orders ranged from the small (kings and
minor lords instituting a call to arms around a certain
cause) to vastly wealthy and powerful religious orders
that rivaled small countries. Their birth and decline,
coupled with the romantic imagery of knighthood, cre-
ated legends, while for a time, providing a unity that
broke the bounds of nationalism to those that belonged.
Presented within these pages are rules for adapting
historical military orders, as well as a few fantasy or-
ders, into your campaign. Also, there are new feats,
magical items, and terrifying monsters to bring fear into
a player’s heart.

Provides
Presented in A Question of Loyalty: A Guidebook to
Military Orders are new rules, feats, and prestige classes
to further enhance your campaign world. In addition, it
provides the opportunity to create military orders for
your campaign as well as the ready-made military orders
presented herein.

However, this book presents more than just mili-

tary orders and their history, but expands upon each of
their aspects. For instance, the Brotherhood of the Tem-
ple of Solomon was prominent bankers and established
the modern banking system, so we devised banking
rules. The Knights Hospitallers, known for the forma-
tion of hospitals during the crusades, we provide rules
for alternative healing components and poultices.
Furthermore, we continue with information about
the Hill Lands first featured in A Question of Honor: A
Guidebook to Knights . It details the influence of the
presented military orders in that specific region of Terra.

This book presents the use of a new tool to further en-
hance any d20 campaign setting: the class template.
What is a class template?
A class template attaches to a character much like a
monster template attaches to a monster; however instead
of getting all the special abilities at once, you receive as
you gain levels in your particular class.
For instance, the advancement chart of a paladin
with the Brotherhood of the Temple of Solomon class
template would look like this:

How do I acquire a class template?
Class templates have minor requirements, much like
prestige classes, that must be met before attaching a
class template to a character and all requirements can
usually be attained while creating a character.

What are the benefits to having a class template?
Class templates allow you to expand your core character
concept without having to choose alternative classes or
they allow you to integrate and expand with supple-
ments presenting alternative character classes. Also,
besides the special abilities, they allow players to access
special feats restricted only to certain members of the
order as well as gaining bonus class skills.
