This file contains the latest information on the Encyclopedia of Electronics.

This is version of the Encyclopedia of Electronic Circuits has 1000 electronic circuit schematics. Schematics are viewed with the SuperCAD viewer (VIEW), which is a reduced version of SuperCAD and is designed for faster and simplified operation when used with the Encyclopedia. The Encyclopedia also has the full-up version of SuperCAD for editing schematics as well as other, locked software. There are also on-line manuals for each software package.

To view the schematic for a given circuit topic, first go to the topic by clicking on the name in one of the categories (e.g., RADIO CIRCUITS). Then just click on the VIEW button in the button bar. This will call up the schematic viewer and load the schematic associated with the given topic.

See the associated help file for operation of both the Encyclopedia and the Schematic Viewer.

Installation

You have two choices for installing the Encyclopedia:

1) Default (Minimum installation)

This installation requires the smallest amount of disk space (less than 500K) and keeps most of the Encyclopedia files on the CD ROM.

2) Maximum installation

This installation may require more than 60Mbytes, depending on the size and type of hard drive you have. On older drives with a minimum record size of 8Kbytes, the disk space required is less than 16K; on new machines the memory requirement is higher.

The maximum installation will result in much faster access times for the CD ROM schematics and other information.

To do the default installation just enter D:\install in the File manager run menu in Windows 3.1 or 3.11. In Windows 95, do the same in the Start menu. “D” is the drive letter for your CD ROM.

To do the maximum installation, enter D:\encyc_hd\install in the run menus.

Installing and Purchasing the Locked Software

The CD ROM contains six CAD software products:

SuperCAD Schematic Editor for Windows (MA8000---$149---Softlock Product # =20080)
SuperPCB Printed Circuit Board Software---Intermediate level (MA8505---$149---Softlock Product # =20081)
SuperPCB Printed Circuit Board Software---Intermediate Level with Router (MA8510---$299---Softlock Product # =20082)
SuperPCB Printed Circuit Board Software--Full Version (MA8500---$499---Softlock Product # =20083)
SuperSIM Digital Simulator for Windows (MA8100---$149---Softlock Product # =20084)
mentalSPICE Analog Simulator for Windows (MA6600---$149---Softlock Product # =20085)

See the associated Encyclopedia help file for a detailed price list and on-line brochures. You can also install the demo software from the DEMO sub-directory on the CD ROM

Each of these products is contained in a directory on the CD ROM. The directory name is the same as the part number (for example, SuperCAD is in the MA8000 directory) To purchase the software, first install it on your computer’s hard drive. Installation consists of running the install.exe utility located in each sub-directory. The first time you run the software, you will be prompted for a password. To obtain the password, note the Product Number and the SoftLockID for your computer; then call 1-800-SOFTLOCK (1-800-763-8562). This is a toll-free (within the US and Canada) 24-hour automated voice-response system. You will need to use a Touch-Tone phone when calling this number. You can also fax 1-617-983-6166 and we will send you a password back by e-mail (preferred), by fax, or by phone.

When calling either phone number, you will be asked to give the Product Number, the SoftLockID for your computer (both of which are shown when you first try to run the software), and a Credit Card number. Both Master Card and VISA are accepted. You will be given a password for this product in approximately 60 seconds, right over the telephone!

Note that password is valid for this computer only. Your password will become invalid if you reformat your hard disk. If you wish to move this product to another computer, you'll need to buy a new password. If you do encounter problems with the SoftLock system included with the application (or need to reformat or change your hard drive) you can either call 800-763-8562 as noted above, or e-mail SoftLock at slcustomerserv@softlock.com.
