Catch-22 by Joseph Heller (1961). Narrated by Wolfram Kandinsky. Books On Tape, Inc. 1980, ISBN 0-7366-8962-1, unabridged, 12 Audio Cassettes (90min), reader Wolfram Kandinsky. This recording (on cassette tape only) is currently out of print. My favorite recording of Catch-22, read by Wolfram Kandinsky. I decided to digitize my audio cassettes after a cassette broke. Books On Tape, Inc. reported it is out of print and they could not replace the cassette. My own opinion: the Kandinsky reading captures the essence of the book, while other readers detract, or distract, from the essence of the book. Transferred from cassette (Nakamichi Dragon) to CD (via Pioneer PDR-555RW) to to MP3 (iTunes 8), 320kbps VBR. The novel, set during the later stages of World War II from 1943 onwards, is frequently cited as one of the great literary works of the twentieth century. The novel follows Yossarian, a U.S. Army Air Forces B-25 bombardier, and a number of other characters. Most events occur while the airmen of the fictional Fighting 256th (or "two to the fighting eighth power") Squadron are based on the island of Pianosa, in the Mediterranean Sea west of Italy The Modern Library ranked Catch-22 as number 7 (by review panel) and as number 12 (by public) on its list of the greatest English language novels of the twentieth century. Time Magazine puts Catch-22 in the top 100 English language modern novels (1923 onwards, unranked) __________________________________________ Page / Chapter - from the PDF 002 1 THE TEXAN 009 2 CLEVINGER 014 3 HAVERMEYER 021 4 DOC DANEEKA 028 5 CHIEF WHITE HALFOAT 037 6 HUNGRY JOE 043 7 McWATT 049 8 LIEUTENANT SCHEISSKOPF 061 9 MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR 079 10 WINTERGREEN 084 11 CAPTAIN BLACK 089 12 Bologna 100 13 MAJOR - DE COVERLEY 107 14 KID SAMPSON 110 15 PILTCHARD & WREN 116 16 LUCIANA 126 17 THE SOLDIER IN WHITE 134 18 THE SOLDIER WHO SAW EVERYTHING TWICE 143 19 COLONEL CATHCART 151 20 CORPORAL WHITCOMB 159 21 GENERAL DREEDLE 172 22 MILO THE MAYOR 184 23 NATELY'S OLD MAN 192 24 MILO 205 25 THE CHAPLAIN 220 26 AARFY 225 27 NURSE DUCKETT 236 28 DOBBS 245 29 PECKEM 254 30 DUNBAR 262 31 MRS.
